What an OGG file actually is

Ogg is a container most often holding Vorbis or Opus audio. It is what WhatsApp voice messages arrive as, and what a lot of open-source and browser-based recorders produce, which makes it far more common than its low profile suggests.

What it means for your transcript

Opus in particular is designed for speech at low bitrates and holds up remarkably well — a 24 kbps Opus voice note stays intelligible where an MP3 at the same bitrate would fall apart. Voice messages transcribe better than their file size implies.

The usual problem with OGG

Voice messages are usually recorded on the move in poor conditions. The format is not the limitation — the street noise behind it is.
