What makes Polish hard to transcribe

Polish packs consonant clusters that have no English equivalent and distinguishes several sibilants — s, ś, sz, and their voiced pairs — that sound nearly identical to an untrained ear. Getting the right one is the difference between real words, and it is where Polish transcripts most often slip.
