What makes Ukrainian hard to transcribe

Ukrainian uses a Cyrillic alphabet that overlaps with Russian but is not identical — і, ї, є and ґ exist in Ukrainian and not in Russian. Because many speakers are bilingual and switch mid-conversation, the biggest practical risk is the transcript drifting into Russian spelling rather than mishearing sounds.

How accurate to expect

Standard Ukrainian transcribes well. The dominant risk is not mishearing but language confusion, since many speakers move between Ukrainian and Russian within one conversation.

What usually needs fixing

2. 2 Surzhyk passages, the mixed Ukrainian-Russian register of everyday speech, which belong cleanly to neither language.
